Rev. Geoffrey Taylor

Rev. Taylor holds a Bachelor of Music from North Carolina School of the Arts and did his graduate studies at the Juilliard School in New York City.

He worked as a professional musician in NYC for several years before transitioning to arts management and fundraising. He discerned a calling to the priesthood while serving as the Associate Vice President of Arts and Sciences at Emory University in Atlanta.

He earned his master’s in divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 2003 and was ordained later that year. He would then serve as rector in several churches in the Diocese of Atlanta and the Diocese of Upper South Carolina.

He is the recipient of the John Owen Smith Preaching Award; has been inducted into the theologically distinguished International [Honor] Society of Theta Phi; and served as Canon for Congregational Development in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina.

Rev Taylor now works a Senior Philanthropy Officer at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist medical center, while doing supply clergy in our Diocese.  He has two daughters both living in Greenville, SC. He and his wife Joanne Avery reside in Winston-Salem.
